EventRelated Potentials and Cognitive Function in Alcoholism
نویسنده
چکیده
Subtle cognitive deficits can be studied using eventrelated potentials (ERP), brain waves elicited in response to sensory stimuli. ERP studies suggest that certain memory processes are impaired in alcoholics; therefore, each incoming stimulus must be evaluated anew. Some ERP anomalies occur in nonalcoholic subjects from alcoholic families, indicating that these anomalies may antecede the development of alcoholism.

Single-trial event-related potentials with wavelet denoising: method and applications
We describe a method based on the wavelet transform for denoising single-trial eventrelated potentials (ERPs). The identification of the event-related responses in the single-trials allows the study of latency jitters and cognitive processes, such as habituation, sensitization and learning. Since the method is fast and parameter free, it could complement ERP conventional analysis. D 2004 Elsevi...

متن کاملThe Effect of Cognitive Tasks on the Ocular Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials in Healthy People
Introduction: The majority of the daily life activities involve the concurrent performance of simultaneously challenging motor and cognitive activities, such as talking while walking, which requires the vestibular system for balance. Functional balance allows the brain to interpret and integrate the sensory information from our physical and social environment. This study aimed to investig...
متن کاملThe role of spatial and temporal information in biological motion perception
Point-light biological motion stimuli provide spatio-temporal information about the structure of the human body in motion. Manipulation of the spatial structure of point-light stimuli reduces the ability of human observers to perceive biological motion. A recent study has reported that interference with the spatial structure of pointlight walkers also reduces the evoked eventrelated potentials ...
